Knee osteoarthritis or also known as knee pain usually affects people over 60 and it can be caused by numerous factors including obesity, aging, excessive workout and injury. It is a degenerative joint disease localized in the knee which causes swelling, loss of motion, abnormal bone growth and disfigured cartilage.

Unfortunately, the condition is progressive and it can become more severe if it is not treated on time.

Medical researchers at the University of Medical Sciences in Iran have studied the effects of sesame seeds on knee osteoarthritis.

Due to the fact that the conventional drugs used in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis may induce cardiac mortality, researchers decided to look for a natural alternative treatment which can reduce the risk of complications.

Namely, the study involved 50 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis who were divided into two groups. The first group received sesame seeds (about 40 g per day), while the other group received the standard drug therapy (500 mg of Tylenol two times daily and 500 mg of Glucosamine once in a day). This treatment lasted for two months.

The results showed that the patients who received sesame seeds had significant decline in pain intensity in comparison to those who received the conventional medical treatment. It was also shown that sesame seeds were equal in effectiveness to Glucosamine and Tylenol in both the TUG and KOOS tests.

However, the best thing is that unlike these drugs, sesame seeds don’t have any side effects. Researchers also suggest that this food therapy encourages tendon regeneration and reduces the risk of developing osteoporosis.

Therefore, today we are going to present you how to use these seeds in order to treat this health issue naturally. If your knee pain is a result of an injury, don’t use this remedy because this condition requires an appropriate medical treatment.

But if it is caused by excessive exercise, obesity or aging then, the remedy we are about to present you, is the perfect solution for you.

Sesame seeds are also abundant in calcium and have great nutritional value. A handful of peeled and dried sesame seeds can provide your body with 500 mg of magnesium and 1200 mg of calcium.

Here is the recipe:

• 8 tablespoons of flaxseed
• 4 tablespoons of sesame seeds
• 200 g of honey
• 2 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin
• 3 tablespoons of raisins
• 40 g pumpkin seeds

Wash the seeds and put all ingredients into a blender. Mix them well. Pour the mixture into a bowl and keep it in a fridge. Take a tablespoon of this remedy two times a day, before breakfast and before lunch.
