Although the food is “fuel” for many processes in the body, one of them is the energy that it gives us for our daily physical needs, including our sports activities, and it can lead us a step closer to prevention of the modern “plague” – cancer.

Even though there is no food that can be singled out as a successful way to kill cancer, incorporating these foods in your daily diet (while practicing healthy eating habits and weekly physical activity) will certainly help to minimize the risk.

Raspberries and blueberries

Laboratory studies have shown that vitamin C contained in raspberries and blueberries protects the DNA cells, binds free radicals and prevents the formation of carcinogenic substances. Blueberries are an excellent source of flavonoids, in particular anthocyanins, which have excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and maintain the elasticity of the walls of blood vessels.

Anthocyanin, a pigment soluble in water, which makes the blueberry purple, reduces the growth and fights against cancer cells in the oral cavity, breast, colon and prostate.

Green tea and coffee

You don’t have to feel guilty if you drink too much coffee and green tea from time to time. It seems that the antioxidant compounds in coffee and green tea benefit the fight against prostate cancer. Consuming coffee and green tea is also associated with a healthy liver.

Studies have shown that those who regularly consume coffee and green tea, reduce the risk of liver cancer up to 50%. Other scientific studies show that caffeine postpones metastasis and provides other anticancer effects.

Tomatoes

A recent study in England have shown that men who consumed 1 to 1.5 kg of tomatoes or tomato products such as tomato sauce, ketchup or tomato paste per week had a nearly 20% lower risk of developing prostate cancer.

New data discovered that the risk can be reduced up to 35%. The healthy benefits of tomatoes are due to the presence of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that successfully deals with the ingredients that cause cell and DNA damage.

Dark chocolate

Dark chocolate has become very popular because it contains polyphenols that lower the blood pressure and are considered cardioprotective. Dark chocolate contains flavonoids which have anti-cancer effects.

Turmeric

With its beautiful yellow color and aromatic properties, turmeric encroaches itself into a decisive fighter of carcinogenic cells in the form of curcumin, the active ingredient which stimulates cellular apoptosis of diseased tissues.

Turmeric is known in the medicine as antitumor polyphenol, which effectively induces self-destruction of the toughest cancer cells and prevents the creation of new disease cells, all without any negative effects on the healthy cells.
